These lockdowns have made me lazy! But for the first time in two years, I’ve joined the lockdown online yoga teaching party, thanks largely to a close friend who called me up and said “Hey man, I’m starting an online wellness and fitness platform and I’d love for you to get involved!”. As fate would have it, I’d been slowly coming to terms with the fact that if I wanted to quell my urge to teach yoga again in the near future it would probably have to be online. The hesitation to do so before, was largely due to past stress I had experienced with filming online classes, not having the space where I lived, the equipment to make it look and sound half decent, the software to edit it and being too focused on making everything perfect! So after addressing these issues and making some changes, I said “Yeah I’d love too!”.
The platform is called Namoo. If you’re looking to delve a little deeper into your yoga practise, with blocks of five, bite-sized classes, covering a specific theme then this is the place for you. As a member you will also get access to classes from other highly trained and experienced fitness and wellbeing professionals. You can access my Namoo classes here.
Then there is YouTube. It’s been a while since I made YouTube yoga videos, in the past my wonderful wife would film them whilst we were living/travelling in Australia, New Zealand and South East Asia. The idea was to keep in touch with my students back home. But not long into it, turning over hotel rooms and Airbnb’s to create space to film, became yet another stress that we didn’t need! Those older videos are shorter and more general. More recently I’ve been encouraging viewers to give me feedback on what they would like to see, which has made the new classes more specific and a lot more enjoyable to create and film! They are still fairly bite-sized, so you can fit them into your busy schedule. So far this year, I have uploaded (click/tap on them to view):
Yoga for all levels
Yoga for sitting at a desk all day
Power Yoga Flow
Yoga for back pain
Yoga to restore & rejuvenate
Yoga for runners
Yoga for Skateboarders
Full Body Yoga Flow
You can find all of my classes on my YouTube channel. I encourage you to be honest with how you have found them and to comment on the videos to give me feedback. If would like me to film a YouTube yoga class with a specific theme or for something in particular, then please do let me know and I’ll see what I can do. I want to make this a shared and interactive experience. You’ll notice in my YouTube yoga videos I ask for a small contribution towards me creating them. It takes a lot of time and effort to plan, film, edit and upload these classes, and with my current financial situation it’s not sustainable to do so for free. So if you do enjoy them or get something out of them, please consider making a contribution.
‘ I can thoroughly recommend James and his online yoga sessions – these bitesized sessions on his YouTube channel are easy to follow, cover a range of scenarios e.g. 15 minutes before work, 20 minutes for those who sit at a desk for a long time and his classes are for all abilities and levels of yoganess. Enjoy…’ – Sue Stokes
‘Just wanted to say I’ve been having a go at your videos, I’ve decided to try yoga and doing some at home first until I’m more comfortable going to a class! Really enjoying them, they’re really good. Make lots more!! – Annabelle Lowes
‘Hi James. I tried your yoga for cyclists yoga video on YouTube and I wanted to say that it was really effective. I struggle a lot with tight muscles (latissimus dorsi & rhomboids) in my back due to the position of sitting on the bike so it was nice to stretch them. Keep the videos coming.’ – Rhian Greaves
So there you have it, two places where you can take part in my yoga classes online! Please like, comment, share, sign-up, subscribe, contribute!
I hope you enjoy,
